This is the face of a true stud
This is the face of a true stud

HEADS UP: Our weekly 'Fantasy Five' feature is living over at go take a boo.

David Backes has been good lately with 6+6=12, plus-6 & 30 shots over his last 10 games but I wasn't fully aware that this guy is on pace for 67 pts, 113 PIMs & 206 shots.... this guy is one of the true six-category studs in the NHL right now.

Again, the 14 shot game turned out to be the TSN turning point for Patric Hornqvist's season as he has five goals (3 GWGs) & 18 shots in the four games since.  This guy shoots the puck a ton (18th in the league with 139 shots), so just by sheer luck he's probably going to end up with close to 30 goals.

Two goals last night for Phil Kessel and he's streakin' with 4+3=7 & 29 shots over his last five games... this is what we Kessel owners have been waiting for, so hopefully you didn't leave him on your bench this week like I did... brilliant.

I've been telling you that I feel a 2nd half surge coming from Dany Heatley... and we had an encouraging sign from Heater in game #41 last night as he fired 11 shots on net.  He only has one goal in his last 10 games but he'll snap out of that soon.

I don't have a lot of time for this guy and he is only on pace for 32 points but Jochen Hecht had a goal last night and points in eight of this last nine (3+6=9).

Drew Stafford with another assist last night to keep the dream alive as he has 8+3=11 over his last 10 games.

Maybe things are starting to click for Colin Wilson as he had three points last night and now has 3+4=7 over his last five games.  The Preds have lots of guys out injured now and that's provided him with more opportunities... and he's responding with production.

All those people that were patient with Shea Weber after a slow start this year are now reaping the rewards as he has 2+4=6 & a plus-9 over his last four games.

Marek Svatos saw his ice-time rise up to almost 14 minutes last night and he scored his first goal for Nashville... I'm still saying pass on this guy.

Bruins rookie dman Steven Kampfer has goals in three of his last five games and he's also a plus-5 during that stretch.  He had 16 points in 20 AHL games before joining the Bruins this year, so the kid has some skill but I'm still a little skeptical though as his senior season at Michigan was really his only big one.

Ilya Bryzgalov couldn't go last night due to some family matters so Jason LaBarbera filled in an stopped 34 shots for his second shutout in his last three games.  Not too bad until you recall that the game in between the two shutouts he gave up six goals on 29 shots.

Cal Clutterbuck with two points last night and he's been pretty productive lately with 4+3=7, plus-6, 22 shots & 39 hits over his last eight games... not bad and the kid just keeps getting better every year.

Jose Theodore stopped 35 of 36 shots to beat the Bruins last night for his third straight win.... he's now 4-1-2 over his last seven games.  He's getting the consecutive starts cause Niklas Backstrom is nursing an injury and Jose is taking advantage.

No points last night but P.K. Subban but he's been logging some solid minutes since his latest healthy scratch and was second on the team with 24:52 last night (but only 0:33 on the PP as Wisniewski is getting the big minutes there).

Johan Hedberg started for the 2nd game in a row and third in the last four for the Devils but he was awful giving up four goals on 20 shots and he's now 1-6-0 over his last nine games, so don't be thinking that he's getting starts because he's earned it... Marty is just getting a break to work on his game a little and he should be back in there regularly pretty soon.

More good times in New Jersey as Jamie Langenbrunner has been sent home and told to wait for a trade.  I'll be watching to see where he ends up as he can still be a pretty effective player in the right situation.  UPDATE:  L'brunner to Dallas for a pick... not a bad place to go but we'll see what they have planned for him, likely 3rd line duty.

Mikhail Grabovski just can't stop scoring... another goal last night (on eight shots) extends his hot streak as he has 10+3=13 in his last 13 games.  He's also got the mojo going as evidenced by this little shootout number (Dan Ellis would not approve)...
