Sunday's Daily Dosage - Nugent-Hopkins, Lupul, Kelly...

New, 2 comments

Crazy night with 12 games and lots of large performances...

Good for you if you're fully invested in the Oilers rebuild as the kids all came to play last night... Ryan Nugent-Hopkins dished off five assists including setting up each of Taylor Hall's three goals and Jordan Eberle had a relatively quiet 1+3=4.  This breaks a slump for Hall as he hadn't scored in his last nine games.  And this from the Department of Maybe-Not-So-Useless-Stats, Taylor Hall has 6+6=12 in 10 home games and 0+2=2 in eight road games... hmmm.  Even more striking is that RNH has 5+6=11 in four Saturday games and just 2+6=8 in his other 15 games.

The CBJs got big contributions from their major offseason acquisitions as Jeff Carter & James Wisniewski both scored their first goals of the season and Curtis Sanford held the fort by stopping 27 of 30 for the OT win.  I'm not advising that you pick him up (unless desperation is high) but Sanford should be seeing as much action as he can handle over the next little while.

Joffrey Lupul with 1+3=4 & six shots last night... so to all those people that I advised you to sell high on him, I meant not until after last night, got it?  But seriously, unless you want to bet that opposing goalies will continue to have a .871 ES sv% when he's on the ice then you should fully expect him to drop off eventually.  Of players that played at least 50 games last year, Getzlaf led the league as goalies had a .880 ES sv% when he was on the ice.

Chris Kelly with a gorgeous stat-line with 2+1=3, plus-3, two PIMs, four shots, two hits & eight FOWs.  He's on pace for 58 pts, which is a stretch, but deep leaguers should give him a sniff as he has 4+2=6 & plus-7 over his last four games.

Jared Spurgeon played a season high 25:52 last night and had a PPA & three shots.  He has 1+2=3 over his last four games and should see a lot of ice-time with Zidlicky, Scandella & Zanon out.

The production is starting to materialize for Tyler Bozak as he has 2+4=6 during a five game stretch where he's playing around 20 mpg in the #1C role.

Yikes... Ray Emery took his first regulation loss of the season as he gave up a converted touchdown to the Oilers (on 27 shots) before being yanked.

One goal in 19 games coming in for Mikko Koivu but two goals last night might signal that he's ramping it up.  This guy is a gamer and I've been advising to buy low while you can.

Two points for T.J. Oshie and he has 5+3=8 over his last eight games.  His points, shots & TOI are all up since Hitchcock took over.

It was a slow start for Joe Corvo this season but he's typically a useful fantasy player and after an assist & plus-4 last night he now has 6A, plus-13 & 16 shots over his last six games.

Two points for Erik Cole to extend his point streak to five games where he has 3+4=7.

Scott Hartnell had just two points in his last six games coming into yesterday but he scored twice on the PP and added an assist... good things can happen when you're Claude Giroux's wingman.

Matt Read with two snipetacular goals yesterday and the rookie now has goals in four straight games.  He was promoted to Giroux's line part way through yesterday's game.

Dustin Byfuglien with three points on the PP yesterday and he has 3+7=10 & 31 shots over his last eight games.  Most everyone was predicting a regression for Buff this year but through 20 games he's actually on pace for more points than last season (57 vs 53).

Bryan Little with two goals yesterday and he has 4+2=6 & 19 shots over his last six games.

Evander Kane was buzzing yesterday putting seven shots on net but only ended up with 1A for this efforts to go along with six PIMs.  He has 3+2=5, plus-5, eight PIMs & 15 shots over his last three games.

The Panthers have recalled Jacob Markstrom from the AHL fueling speculation that Scott Clemmensen may be sitting out awaiting a trade... or he may actually be hurt.

Joe Colborne was called up and had an assist in his first game of the season with the Leafs.  He was top 10 in AHL scoring when he left.

Anders Nilsson was called up by the Islanders and for any number of reasons the backup goalie for the NYI should always be expecting to see action... RDP was pulled after the 1st period last night and Nilsson made his NHL debut by giving up three goals on 17 shots.

Zac Dalpe has been brought up again by Carolina.
