Alex Ovechkin with the lone goal in the 1-0 win over the Pens last night. He's playing at a point a game pace which is nice but not what you want out of Ovie. It still shocks me he's on pace for just 32 goals.
Michal Neuvirth uped the ante after Semyon Varlamov's 29/39 save win yesterday. He picked up a 39 save shutout against the Pens. The Caps surprising defensive play may be killing the fantasy prospects of Ovie and friends but it's doing nice things for their tender's numbers. Now if one of them would just step up and get the #1 job then we could get really excited.
Marc-Andre Fleury was the hard luck loser in the Pens-Caps matchup. He stopped all but one of the 24 shots the Caps threw his way. I was losing a lot of faith in him before this season (two straight years over 2.60 gaa) but the new Pens defensive system is doing great things for the Flower this year. He's 5th in gaa and 9th in sv%.
We thought Ben Bishop would get the start after looking good in relief on Saturday (20 saves on 20 shots). He got the start but also got shelled (14 saves on 18 shots). Ty Conklin came in and saved the final seven shots. Maybe the Blues just need to start somebody and pull them right away? Jaroslav Halak is 7-10 days from returning.
The Patrik Berglund - T.J. Oshie train has really been rolling lately. They each picked up another two points last night to keep their hot streaks going..
Jonathan Toews had 1+1=2 yesterday and now has 19 points in his last 14 games. Dude is on fire right now. He's on pace to crack 70 points for the first time in his career.
I'm really starting to love Travis Hamonic. Last night, the two assists were nice but the 21 PIM's are really what won me over. He didn't do much his first 20 NHL games (only five points) but if you prorate what he's done since over 82 games you would get: 49 points and 233 PIM's. That is insane. I've added Hamonic in every league I could... Cam beat me to the punch in one.
Matt Moulson with the hat trick last night... that's five goals in his last two games. He upped his season pace to 35+20=55 with the surge.
Al Montoya stopped 20 shots to pick up the 5-1 win of the Panthers last night. The Islanders have been rolling lately. How the hell did that happen? They will probably ride Montoya for awhile but I just don't think this is legit. Like we said when he was first called up... roll the dice on him if you're desperate for a goalie but don't count on much. This is still the Islanders we're talking about here.
Sheldon Souray passed through re-entry waiver with no takers. If you took a flyer on him then it's time to look somewhere else. Odds are he'll be in the AHL all season.
