Friday's Daily Dosage - Kovalev, Ellis, Stillman...

Kovalev would probably like to forget his time in Ottawa... the $10 million he robbed them of will surely help.

I'm back after a week of frying my Jason Blake-ish skin in the hot Costa Rican sun... a thousand thank you's to Jay for filling in while I was gone and bear with me as I get back up to speed, hence the tardiness today...

Alex Kovalev was traded to the Penguins for a conditional 7th round pick, so that tells you all you need to know about his value.  Now, a little motivation could go a long way with this guy and while it's not like he'll be playing with Crosby or Malkin, it wouldn't surprise me to see this guy pick it up and start being fantasy-worth again, so he's worth monitoring.

Dan Ellis was traded to the Ducks for Curtis McElhinney and he'll likely be given the chance to carry the load while Hiller is out.  Ellis was struggling in Tampa on a team that kept the shots down so we're not sure how he'll handle playing behind a leaky defense that has allows the 4th most shots in the league (33.1/gm).  It all comes down to desperation, if you really need any help in net you can get then give Ellis a look but I wouldn't say he's a great option.  McElhinney will be the #2 in Tampa for the moment but Mike Smith is back on waivers and Tampa is planning on bringing him up if he clears so this situation is pretty fluid... neither guy is someone you want on your roster.

The Hurricanes added Cory Stillman from the Panthers for some scraps... this could give the old man a little boost but he's pretty fragile and I think time has caught up with his body so I wouldn't be expecting too much out of him.

The Habs picked up Nigel Dawes & Brent Sopel in a trade with ATL for Ben Maxwell & a pick.  Not much happening here unless the Habs give another short-man a shot and bring Dawes up from the minors where he has 13+6=19 in 15 games since Jan 1st.  Maxwell is only 22 and has shown some decent production in the AHL over the past few years so maybe the Thrashers will be more willing to give him a look in the future.

Ottawa claimed Marek Svatos on waivers from Nashville to fill "the void" left when Kovalev was dealt... not that he has big shoes to fill but good luck with that one Senators.

Man, you go away for a few days and Roman Hamrlik turns into Larry Robinson with 6A, 10 PIMs & 15 shots over his last six games.  I'll have to look into this a little more but he led the team in PP TOI last night (6:35).

PPG for Alex Pietrangelo last night and that gives him 2+7=9 with six PPPs over his last six games... so someone seems to be enjoying life after EJ.

Corey Crawford with the 31 save shutout last night and he's started six games in a row and is 5-1-1 with a 1.84 gaa & .938 sv% over his last seven.

Four point night for Phil Kessel and he's on one of his patented tears lately with 6+2=8 over his last five games so enjoy it while it lasts cause it will likely to be followed by another slump... such is life with this guy.

Wow, I figured while I was gone Mikael Samuelsson would have gone ice cold or been injured or something but he's hanging in there with another goal last night to give him 10+8=18 over his last 14 games.

Martin Havlat with an assist on eight shots last night to give him points in four straight (3+1=4).
