Thursday's Injury Updates - Malkin, Dadonov, Jovanovski...

For a consolidated list of injuries & current status, see our Injury Updates page.

Evgeni Malkin couldn't go last night because of the smokescreen "sinus infection" and Coach Bylsma had this to say...

Evgeni Malkin had a good day today skating. He appears to be getting better and hopefully is progressing towards playing later this week. He's at the point right now that if he continues with where he's at, he should be ready to play soon. It's not like he has to get better anymore. He's had a couple good days. He's skated and looks like he should be ready to go to the next level - which is just playing.

... WTF?... did that make any sense to anyone?  Maybe I'm reading too much into this but it just sounds like the team is trying to confuse the issue here and that this guy may be hurting way more than they're letting on.

Evgeny Dadonov left last night's game with a hand injury that may be a broken finger.

Ed Jovanovski missed last night's game due to a UBI... he had that concussion a few weeks back but had returned, not sure if this is related.

Rick DiPietro's face is apparently pretty messed up after "fighting" Brent Johnson last night but hopefully all his bones are still in tact... he'll likely sit out a week or two anyway, as that's how he rolls.

Logan Couture missed a second straight game with the flu.

The Blues activated Andy McDonald (concussion) from the IR so he seems ready to make his return Friday night.  Ditto for the Sabres Tim Connolly (hip).

Jamie Benn is expected to miss at least another week with his shoulder injury.

All we've been told about David Jones' shoulder injury is that he's out indefinitely but he was at practice yesterday and was shooting the puck so it can't be that bad.

Peter Mueller was on the ice yesterday but only for 10 minutes, so I wouldn't get your hopes up about him returning this season.

Guillaume Latendresse (hip & groin) has a March 1st target date for his return.

This shouldn't come as a shock but there's a chance that Pascal Leclaire is done for the year as he isn't making any progress in his rehab from a LBI.

Returning to action from the injured list last night:  Danny Cleary & Ales Hemsky.
