Brendan Morrison with a hat-trick of assists last night to extend his point streak to seven games (4+6=10) and that may have blown his cover as I was hoping he was going to be a nice add in a Monday free agent auction in one league but now the price has likely gone way up.
Fantasy stat line of the night for Alex Tanguay as he was 2+1=3, plus-2, two PIMs & seven shots and is clicking with Iggy & Morrison lately to the tune of 3+6=9 over his last seven games.
Lots of great goalie performances yesterday as five of them posted shutouts but two that I'll make special note of... Pekka Rinne with the 35 save shutout of the Wings and he's the hottest goalie going at 7-3-1, 1.70 & .946 over the past month... he's now second only to Tim Thomas in gaa (2.04) & sv% (.931). Antti Niemi shutout the Bruins and is 6-0-1 over his last eight games with a 2.07 & .929 over the past month.
Alex Kovalev with goals in three straight games (3+2=5) and this is his best/only decent stretch of the season. Was looking at his splits and he's had some solid 2nd half runs over the past three years... last year he was awful at the start and the finish but had 25 pts in 22 games during January & February, 2008/09 he finished with 30 pts in his last 29 games and in 2007/08 he went off in February with 21 pts in 14 gms and finished with 38 in his last 31. So, not saying I'd want to rely on the guy but there is a track record of him finding some motivation as the season gets older.
Erik Cole with the OT winner on seven shots last night and he's been solid lately with 2+4=6 over his last five games and 9+11=20 over his last 25. He's bounced around on a bunch of different lines this season but has settled into his usual spot on Eric Staal's wing lately.
R.J. Umberger with a crazy 2+2=4 & plus-4 last night and while this guy is on pace for 58 points, he started slow and has been playing at close to a 70 point pace for a few months with 14+18=32 over his last 39 games.
Well Kristian Huselius responded how the coach wanted after his scratching on Friday night as he potted two goals last night.
I don't own Anze Kopitar in any leagues so I wasn't fully aware of this... he's now gone 19 games with only one goal and only has 1+4=5 over his last 12 games.
Nice game for Drew Stafford with 2+1=3, two PPPs & seven shots last night... I'm a little skeptical about this guy but I do think he's flying under-the-radar a little as he's playing at a 42+25=67 point pace (per 82 gms).
There hasn't been a headlining grabbing streak but Tyler Myers has quietly started to pick it up with 1+13=14 & even over his last 22 games after putting up 5+3=8 & minus-10 in his first 27 games.
Kevin Poulin stopped 20 of 23 to pick up another win, his first as the Islanders full-time #1 with RDP out, and his numbers are a respectable 4-2-1, 2.44 & .924 through his first 10 NHL games. I'm still not going anywhere near him as I'm not a fan of rookie Islander goalies but I guess it depends on your level of desperation.
Two more points for Michael Grabner last night and he now has 7+5=12, plus-6 & 38 shots over his last 11 games. I'll admit, I was poo-pooing this guy's streak recently, didn't think it would last but he's showing well and seems to be in the mood.
Ty Wishart got into his first game with the Islanders last night and he made a good first impression with 2A. He doesn't project out as an offensive dman but he's been decent in the AHL this season with 23 pts in 43 games and the Islanders can use any help they can get back there.
The Thrashers are in a bad place these days and don't be fooled by Ondrej Pavelec's numbers as they still look decent on the season (2.53 & .924) but he's been below average for a long stretch as he's 5-8-5 with a 3.41 & .902 over his last 18 games. Not all his fault as the Thrashers are worst in the league by allowing 34.3 shots/gm.
Magnus Paajarvi with a pair last night and he's been in good form lately with 5+2=7 over his last nine games.
The streak continues for Nikolai Khabibulin as he's now lost 13 games on the trot... and it gets even worse as he's given up three or more goals in nine straight.
Stevie Yzerman with the classic fantasy GM move... Marc-Andre Bergeron hadn't been doing too much with just five assists in his first 12 games in the AHL but then on Friday he had two PPGs & an assist and so Yzerman decides he needs to get the hot hand in his lineup and called him up yesterday. I'm a big fan as this guy is a productive player and I don't think the Lightning are calling him up for his defensive abilities, so he's definitely worth a look if you need help on D.
Kurtis Foster was a healthy scratch, again, last night as he has one assist and three scratches to show for his last 20 games.
