Slow news weekend, so we'll dump some links on you...
Not sure why the Devils are bumbling this but apparently they haven't really been negotiating with Zach Parise and instead will take him to arbitration. This will buy them some time to work out a long-term deal with him but is also quite risky as he can elect a one-year deal and then walk as a UFA next summer. [Puck Daddy]
The Blue Jackets are expected to let veteran UFAs Chris Clark, Ethan Moreau & Craig Rivet walk... and the article didn't seem overly optimistic about Jan Hejda, Scottie Upshall & Mathieu Garon being brought back either. Smart move all around (except maybe Upshall) as it's time for an injection of youth for this team, provide some opportunities to guys like Ryan Johansen, Matt Calvert, John Moore, Tomas Kubalik and maybe even Nikita Filatov(?) to show what they can do. It sounds like the Ed Jovanovski will be allowed to hit the UFA market by Phoenix as well... good news for those of you needing a fragile 30-point dman. [Arizona Republic]
Matthew Coller at Hockey Prospectus with a list of guys that could be looking for work if they get bought out starting this week... not really top fantasy options but Kristian Huselius is a guy, at only 32, that should have a few fantasy-worthy years left in him. [Hockey Prospectus]
Here's a look at the top UFA goalies heading towards July 1st... Josh Harding will be an interesting one to watch and where/in what role will Ray Emery land? [Scott Lewis @ HOTH]
This link doubles as a dig at Dobber... this quote from today's Rambings:
I’ve stated here often over the past year – points from defensemen are on the rise.
... well I hate to see how outrageous his projections get next year as he already predicted that 48 dmen would top 40 points in 2010/11. In reality, only 28 dmen exceeded that number, so he's already a tad on the optimistic side to begin with.
Reports say that Tampa has signed last year's 6th overall pick, Brett Connolly, to an ELC... he was a little more healthy this season (46+27=73 in 59 games) but I still have some real concerns about his long term outlook. If Stevie Y follows the Red Wings model then don't expect Connolly to see much NHL action for a few years.
Non-fantasy but an interesting situation here as the Winnipeg franchise is internally debating whether it should be honouring the history of former Winnipeg hockey greats or remembering those that played with the Atlanta franchise that they've inherited. Will they allow Evander Kane to continue to wear Bobby Hull's retired #9. Or will Kane show up at the season opener and do the Ray Bourque by peeling off the #9, give it to Hull and display the #99 underneath... probably not likely but that would blow the doors open in grand fashion.
