Going from an A to a C... I've heard that before.
Going from an A to a C... I've heard that before.

Fantasy Hockey news is picking up as training camps are right around the corner...

We'll actually get some game action starting today as a few rookie tournaments begin this weekend, including the Leafs vs Hawks tonight.  Check the team websites as often you can get a live stream.

David Backes is the new captain of the St. Louis Blues, joining greats like Garth Butcher, Shane Corson & Dallas Drake.  Hopefully it doesn't change his game at all as he's a true fantasy stud having averaged 26+28=54 with 121 PIMs, 228 hits & 194 shots over the past three seasons.

Shawn Matthias has re-signed with the Panthers for two years... it's a two-way deal in the first year and a one-way the second.  He'll have to battle in training camp to keep his roster spot and is likely looking at some time in the minors this year.  As you know, I've really soured on him over the past three years.

Kyle Cumiskey re-signed with the Avs on a one-year, two-way deal.  He says he's recovered from the two concussions he suffered last season but he was fragile to begin with.  The two-way part of this deal could be bad news as the Avs already have seven dmen signed to one-way deals and a number of prospects (Gaunce, Holos, Elliott & Barrie) who will be fighting to stick around in training camp... not a good situation if you're a Cumiskey owner.

Chris Pronger was on the ice for the first time in over four months yesterday following offseason back surgery and said he felt good afterwards.  He said he was a few weeks away from practicing with the team so it sounds like he might not be ready for the beginning of the season.

The Caps Dennis Wideman says he is 100% following the leg hematoma that kept him out of the playoffs last year.

Evgeni Nabokov is working out with his (possibly) Islanders teammates getting ready for the season, so it sounds like he's serious about reporting to training camp and maybe even suiting up with the club.  I'm still skeptical and wouldn't be surprised if he was dealt before the season began... but who the F knows.

When Travis Zajac had surgery back in August on a torn Achilles tendon it was reported that he would need about three months to recover.  Well Dr. Zach Parise says more like four to six [via In Lou We Trust].  Even more reason to avoid him until very late in your draft this fall.

The Hawks acquired David Toews from the Islanders for a few bus tokens.  Toews joins his brother in Chicago, well not really as David isn't much of a prospect as you can probably tell by the fact that the Islanders are giving up on him.

Craig Button from TSN with his first Craig's List for the 2012 draft... no surprise that Nail Yakupov & Matthew Dumba are right at the top.   A little surprised that Derrick Pouliot is only 20th, kid looks like a good one to me and Matia Marcantuoni is another that I'll be keeping my eye on this year.
