Saturday's Daily Dosage - Crosby, Crawford, Fisher...

I'm in love with this quote from Jiri Hudler talking about how he's feeling physically after offseason training:

Time will tell but I feel real good.  I felt good last year and look what happened.

That about sums up my thoughts when everyone is going gaga over a player cause "he worked out like an animal this summer" and "came to camp in the best shape of his life"... it's not going to lead to a career year for everybody.

Sidney Crosby was cleared to participate in non-contact drills... that's about the equivalent of your parents letting you borrow the car but not letting you leave the driveway.  People seem to think that this news is some kinda progress but until he starts getting hit and into game situations, this isn't telling us anything... in my opinion.

Coach Q says that he sees Corey Crawford playing in 55 games this season... he was in 57 last year but didn't take over the #1 job until December so it seems like Q wants to give him more days off this season.  That's good news if you're invested in Alexander Salak or Ray Emery as a backup who could see a decent workload and might push Crawford a little.

The Hurricanes signed 2011 1st rounder Ryan Murphy to an ELC yesterday.  We're extremely high on his upside as we had him ranked #1 in long-term fantasy value amongst players in the 2011 Draft and that was assuming that he was going back to junior this season.  I think it would take a monumental effort for him to make the team out of training camp but I thought the same thing last year about Skinner.

Mike Fisher has had a slow recovery from offseason shoulder surgery and is just starting to shoot the puck... doesn't sound like he'll be ready for the start of the season.  [via Josh Cooper @ The Tennessean]

Chris Pronger is the new captain of the Flyers... like none of us saw that coming.

Drew Doughty is officially holding out from Kings training camp as he hasn't been able to work out a contract.  We haven't seen too many holdouts since the lockout so we'll see who blinks first.

Nice rundown of some of the issues to be resolved at CBJs training camp, including who will land the top line spot with Nash & Carter.  Sounds like the thinking is that Vinny Prospal is the leading candidate but it could be a revolving door.  [via Aaron Portzline @ The Columbus Dispatch]

Good read over at Silver Sevens from DarrenM about six stories to watch at Sens camp this year... I think that's a really interesting training camp to keep tabs on to see Rundblad vs Cowen, Da Costa vs Zibanejad and whether Butler & Filatov can land top six roles.

I liked this article from Dobber (via Puck Daddy) where he runs down all of the question marks in the 1st round of fantasy drafts, gives a few value picks outside the top 40 and discusses when to draft a goalie.  But of course he has to bring up the whole Malkin is better than Stamkos business (except for this year... and the last two years in retrospect).

Corey Pronman of Hockey Prospectus with a Top 100 Prospects list... it's a good list with a few surprises near the top.  Corey's list isn't from a fantasy perspective but he does give skill a higher weighting so it's a better list than most.  Our rankings are totally from a fantasy perspective and has the Top 500 Prospects.
