Wednesday's Daily Dosage - Grabovski, Gagner, Nugent-Hopkins...

New, 10 comments

Mikhail Grabovski is flying in the preseason and not even what looked like a concussion can slow him down as he left last night's game for a bit but returned to set up a few goals and finished with 1+2=3.

Some guy named Dmitry Kulikov had 1+1=2 (both on the PP) last night for the Panthers while playing 7:16 of PP time... sounds good to me, lots of breakout potential with DK this year.  Jonathan Huberdeau also scored for Florida and looks to be having a fine preseason with 2+1=3 in four games.

The update on Sam Gagner is that he's out week-to-week with a sprained ankle... that's pretty vague but I'd guess he's probably out a while, maybe a month.  This hurts as most of us were hoping he'd get off to a fast start this year but that looks to be impossible now.

A killer line of Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins & Jordan Eberle combined on three goals last night with RNH potting his first goal of the preseason and setting up two goals by Hall.  Tambellini says they won't keep RNH around if he's not ready regardless if Gagner is out a while but the kid is looking like he can contribute with 1+5=6 in four games.  I've been guessing that he'd get a nine run and then be sent back to Red Deer but it's looking like I may have underestimated how ready the kid is.

Peter Regin hurt his shoulder last night and had to leave the game.  It was the same shoulder that caused him to miss the final 23 games of last season... not cool.  And Stephane Da Costa is day-to-day with a LBI.

At the same time, Mika Zibanejad scored again for the Sens last night, that's his third goal of the preseason, so even if Regin & Da Costa aren't hurt badly, they could lose their spot in the lineup to the kid.

Jared Cowen played 23 minutes last night for the Sens while David Rundblad only saw 18 but did pick up an assist... two enter, one stays, one goes.

Henrik Karlsson recorded a 13 save shutout last night but we should really put an asterisks beside that one as it came against the Islanders and a lineup that resembled an ECHL team.  The Islanders forwards only combined for six shots on net... yikes.   Evgeni Nabokov played two periods for the Isles last night, stopping 15 of 16... still not sure what is going to happen with him.

Scott Hartnell has been cleared to play after leaving a game last week with an elevated heart rate.

One notable cut from yesterday was Zach Hamill of the Bruins, the 8th overall pick from 2007.  He's now on waivers and I'd be stunned if someone claimed him.

Florida prospect Quinton Howden has been returned to his Jr. team.
