Everything is turning into goals for McGinn lately
Everything is turning into goals for McGinn lately

A goal on six shots (18:00 TOI) last night for Jamie McGinn and he now has 5+2=7 & 19 shots over his last five games... a great deadline acquisition for the Avs, ala Peter Mueller from a few years ago.

Another solid outing as Semyon Varlamov stopped 38 of 40 to beat the Ducks last night an extend his run to 7-2-0, 1.32 & .955 over his last nine games. But upon further inspection, he hasn't beaten a team that is currently in a playoff position since Jan 6th as he is 0-5-1 against playoff teams since that date. So I'd say he should send over an autographed jersey to the schedule-maker as there have been lots of easy-outs on the sked lately.

After his marker last night Taylor Hall has goals in three straight and 6+4=10 & 45 shots over his last 11 games. A lot of people were expecting a Stamkos-like sophomore breakout from him, so should we be pleased or disappointed that he looks like he'll end up around 60 points (in 70 games) this year?

The Blues didn't waste any time getting Jaden Schwartz to sign a contract and he is expected to make his NHL debut tonight. Lots of skill with this kid as he put up 1.33 pts/gm over two years in college for a team that wasn't an offensive powerhouse and he was in on an impressive 42% of their goals during his career. Prior to that he easily lit up the USHL during his only season there, so this kid has exceeded expectations everywhere he goes and I think he'll be a solid pro. Having said that, it's a lot to ask for him to step onto what is the #1 team in the NHL and take on a major role right away, so have patience.

Two more assists for Sergei Kostitsyn last night and he has 2+4=6 during a four game point streak.

Three pointer for Martin Erat last night and he has 4+6=10 & plus-6 over his last 10 games.

Gabriel Landeskog was a question mark heading into last night's game as he was stricken with an illness but he ended up playing and had his usual rambunctious game with the OT winner, three shots & four hits.

David Desharnais was also questionable to play last night due to a LBI that kept him out of Saturday's game but he ended up skating 20 minutes and had 1+1=2. Since right around New Year's he has been on fire with 10+23=33 over his last 32 games but we're still not seeing much of a contribution in peripheral categories so his fantasy value is somewhat limited.

Tyler Ennis with a pair of goals last night and while he's been a letdown this year he is getting better lately with 4+4=8 over his last 10 games.

Cody Hodgson was bumped off L2 down to L4 last night and only ended up with 11 minutes of ice-time. Things haven't gone as planned with the Sabres as he doesn't have a point in eight games so far. He may have minimal value for this season but don't give up on him.

Didn't see it but read that on TSN last night they were mentioning that Ducks prospect Justin Schultz could go the Blake Wheeler route and not sign with the Ducks, making himself a UFA later in the summer. Interesting, let me know if you've heard anything about this.

Here is a little update on the Alexander Radulov situation from On The Forecheck... everything sounds promising.

Promoted: Kyle Palmieri, Gustav Nyquist & Bobby Sanguinetti.

Demoted: Simon Despres & Anders Nilsson.
