3A & plus-5 for Erik Karlsson puts him at exactly a point-per-game through 76. He has 55% more points (76 to 49) than any other dman, imagine if Malkin had 55% more points (136 to 88) than Stamkos, it would blow your mind! Unbelievable season from Karlsson, just unreal. Recall back in the 80s when Gretzky was so good that he was either excluded from fantasy leagues or his Goals & Assists were split so that each was drafted separately... we might need to do the same for Karlsson next year (not really but cmon).
The Wings just curb-stomped the CBJs last night with both Todd Bertuzzi & Henrik Zetterberg recording 4A. Bert isn't particularly useful these days but he is consistent as he is on his way to his fifth straight 40-something point season, throws in a healthy dose of PIMs and a solid plus-25 this year. You all know about Zetterberg's story this year as his start cost some of us dearly as he had just seven points over his first 18 games but now has 59 over his last 58 (good for 7th in the league since Nov 20th).
Granted his goal last night was a bit of a fluke but Tom Pyatt has four goals in his last three games and 5+3=8 over his last 10. I never realized the connection before but Pyatt played pretty well for half a season under Guy Boucher in Hamilton in 2009/10... makes sense.
The Cock says the Brian Elliott will get his third straight start tonight coming off of back-to-back shutouts but that Jaroslav Halak will play on Thursday no matter what.
Mike Cammalleri jumped in between Iginla & Tanguay on the Flames top line and that seemed to work as he had 1+2=3 to spark a big victory. Going back pre-UBI, he now has points in his last five games (3+4=7).
Jamie Benn came to play in a key H&H against Calgary as he had two goals in each leg.
Two goals (GWG), plus-3 and five shots for Daniel Alfredsson last night, a nice follow-up to his four points from Saturday. Too bad I dropped him a few weeks ago in a shallow league, I could have used this little eruption.
The CBJs Mark Letestu has goals in three straight games and 6+3=9 & plus-5 over his last 11 games. He has taken on a major role lately and has played 20+ minutes in eight of the last 11 games.
Valtteri Filppula is not only the toughest name to spell in the league but he has also been tough to stop lately as he has five assists over his last two games and 6+12=18 & plus-9 over his last 14. It's been a remarkable breakout season from Val as he will approach 70 points this year, pretty good for a guy who had a career high of 40 coming into the season.
Gustav Nyquist with his first NHL goal last night (on a beauty feed from Datsyuk) and the kid now has a point in four straight games.
Sebastien Caron is expected to get his first start for Tampa tonight.
Lots of interesting movement as college, Jr. & European seasons are ending: FLA signed Drew Shore out of Denver U where he had a few strong seasons, worth keeping an eye on how he does in the AHL. Dallas pulled another kid out of college as they signed Alex Chiasson after his third season at BU, I don't see a lot of upside here. Detroit is bringing dman Adam Almqvist over from Sweden to finish the year in the AHL now that his SEL season is over, this kid has put up big numbers in the Swedish Jr. leagues and the Wings know how to pick them some Swedes.
