Friday's Injury Updates - Backstrom, Toews, Howard, Letang...

Proof that Sid the Kid bleeds.
Proof that Sid the Kid bleeds.

A bit of a scare here as Sidney Crosby took a puck to the face last night and left a pool of blood on the ice. He came back about 5 minutes later, so he must be fine. Though he did make it two straight games without a point, so maybe it's time to panic!

Nicklas Backstrom has targeted tomorrow as his return date after missing 40 games to a concussion.

Jonathan Toews (concussion) is supposed to be cleared for contact today and he'll likely get into a game next week.

Jimmy Howard (groin) should be dressing for tonight's game and might even get the start, but that's still up in the air as of now.

Kris Letang missed last night's game with the Islanders and is still considered day to day with a LBI. He will not play tonight, either.

Jeff Carter suffered an ankle injury and all indications are that he will miss tonight's game.

Kimmo Timonen (back) didn't dress last night as they're trying to give him some extra healing time. He should be back in the lineup on Saturday.

Evgeni Nabokov is officially out for the rest of the season. It was fun while it lasted.

Andy McDonald will be back in the lineup for the Blues tomorrow.

Adam McQuaid took a brutal boarding penalty from Jason Chimera. McQuaid didn't return and his status is up in the air. I'd bet Chimera gets a call from the NHL and a subsequent suspension.

Dennis Seidenberg couldn't play last night. He got sliced with a skate during Saturday's game, but did play in the Bruins next game. Apparently the wound became infected, so he's day to day. Claude Julien said "hopefully we'll have him next game", so it doesn't sound long term.

Jonas Gustavsson took a shot from Clarke MacArthur off of his knee in warmups last night and limped off the ice. The Leafs had to call up Jussi Rynnas as the emergency starter. The juicy one proceeded to allow seven goals to the Flyers.

Tomas Vokoun returned last night only to leave the game before the end of the first period.

Returning last night from injury: Radim Vrbata, Vincent Lecavalier, Adrian Aucoin, Anton Volchenkov, Niklas Backstrom
