Monday's Daily Dosage - Clowe, Crawford, Redden...

New, 10 comments

A fantasized look at the NHL action from Sunday

Thearon W. Henderson

Love it... Ryane Clowe with the nuclear PIM-bomb last night with 35 PIMs! What is even more impressive is the variety in which he accumulated them as he picked up a couple for jawing with Burrows before the opening faceoff, scrapped with Kassian in the 1st, holding the stick, tripping, high-sticking and then two, 10 & a game for misconduct after he threw a hissy fit at the refs... well played.

Corey Crawford remained undefeated as he ran his streak to five wins after beating the Wings in OT. Call me an unbeliever here as I wasn't sure what we would get from Crawford this season after a down year with just a .903 sv% last season but the Hawks are playing great in front of him and he hasn't been breached for more than two goals in a game yet.

Goals in back-to-back games for Wade Redden as he played 21 minutes last night lining up with Pietrangelo and saw a little time on the PP. People may look at his last season with the Rangers and his 2+ seasons in the AHL and think that this guy is done but perhaps he was just suffering from boredom down there and will respond now that he has a chance to prove his doubters wrong.

And he's off... Alex Ovechkin is out of the gate with his first goal yesterday, a trademark one-timer from the left circle on the PP. It's been a slow start for all of the Caps so don't lose patience here.

They haven't seen a ton of ice-time but the Habs are rolling out a kid line these days, ok well two kids & Prust, but two outta three ain't bad. Alex Galchenyuk showed some great jump and recorded two assists including setting up Brendan Gallagher for his first NHL goal.

I must have missed this... apparently Kyle Clifford has a point in every game so far and 1+4=5 to start the season? Not bad after just 12 points all of last season. I have respect for this guy as he went down to the ECHL during the lockout to work on his game. He's still young (just turned 22) and I think he has more skills than just a pure goon.

Three straight starts now for Michal Neuvirth and yesterday he rewarded Oates for his faith by posting the team's first win. The scales are definitely tipping in his favour right now in the battle with Holtby for the net in DC.

David Clarkson is off to a hot start with points in four straight after 1+2=3 yesterday to go along with a nice peripheral contribution of two PIMs, four shots and two hits. Lots of people were skeptical about this guy coming into this season but you have to remember that he's a favourite of coach Peter DeBoer and is 4th on the team in PP TOI with 3:49/gm.

Tampa continued their high scoring ways dropping a fiver on Philly yesterday. They have scored three or more in each game this season. Martin St. Louis led the way with four helpers and he now has multi-point efforts in four of five games this year. I've been telling you to get on the Sami Salo bandwagon as he had 2A last night and now has five points & plus-8 over his last three games.

Evander Kane had the winner in OT last night and has 3+3=6 over his last three games.

The Sabres are taking Mikhail Grigorenko's audition seriously as he played 17 minutes yesterday in his fifth NHL game but still wasn't able to hit the scoresheet. Their decision should be coming down shortly. Meanwhile, the gig is up for Mathew Dumba and Scott Laughton as they were returned to their Jr. clubs yesterday.

Notable scratches: Mark Scheifele & Marcus Johansson. Just a wake-up call for Johansson as he's started the year without a point and minus-5 in his first four games.

Promoted: Jake Gardiner, Sami Vatanen, Emerson Etem, Marco Scandella & Richard Bachman.

Demoted: Peter Holland.
