Fantasy Hockey Injury News for Saturday

A fantasized look at the NHL injury news on Saturday morning

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Flyers are going from hilarious to sad... while getting creamed 7-nil last night by the Capitals, both Steve Downie & Vincent Lecavalier were injured during fights.  This was Downie's first game with the Flyers and I guess his owners can take consolation in his 17 PIMs but he left with a concussion and went to hospital.  Lecavalier suffered facial injuries at the hands of noted pugilist Steven Oleksy.  I'd consider both out indefinitely but it sounds like Lecavalier shouldn't be out too long.

No Alex Ovechkin for the Caps last night but it's not like they needed him. He might be able to go tongiht, so maybe he was just resting up for the Panthers?

Jeff Carter has been IR'd with a LBI injury.  That's not going to help him get out of a one goal in 10 game funk.

Johan Franzen returned last night after missing Wednesday's game with an undisclosed injury but he couldn't make it through last night's game due to an illness and was re-shelfed.  He's likely out for tonight's game.

Jonas Gustavsson has a sore neck and is on IR.  Petr Mrazek got the call and will start tonight in Edmonton.

Travis Zajac hurt his ankle during Friday's practice (Allen Iverson would not be impressed) and will miss tonight's game.  Not sure if he'll miss any additional practices (or games) because of it.

The Jets Mark Stuart has been battling a hip injury for a while and now it's landed him on the IR.

Saturday looks like a big day for returns as Dan Boyle (concussion), Max Pacioretty (hamstring) and Nikolai Kulemin (ankle) should play today and Cory Schneider (LBI) is likely to dress as Marty's backup.

Returning to action last night from the injured list:  Jonas Brodin & Charlie Coyle.
