A fantasized look at the NHL injury news for Wednesday

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sport

Pekka Rinne has an E. Coli infection in his hip and is not expected back until late December. Terrible news for Rinne who just can't catch a break this year. Here's hoping he has a speedy recovery back to good health.

Jonas Gustavsson was a full participant in practice today and should be relegated to backup duties on Thursday which means Mrazek will be sent down.

Steve Downie skated on his own today which is promising news. But his status is still day-to-day with concussion symptoms

Evander Kane took the morning skate and will be a game time decision tonight.

Alexander Semin did not practice today but no word yet as to what might be ailing him. I'll keep an eye out for any updated news on his situation today.

Craig Anderson skated in today's optional skate for the Senators. Still no timetable for his return but this is promising news.

Teemu Selanne will be back in the lineup tonight as the Ducks square off against the Coyotes.

Johan Franzen skated with the team at practice today but saw only limited action. We should find out more tomorrow if he will be good to go against the Stars.

Tim Thomas is not expected to play on Thursday against the Bruins but he did make the road trip with the Panthers and might play this weekend.

Justin Schultz has been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Lightning. He skated on his own today however so expect him back very soon.

Beau Bennett is not expected to play tonight despite participating in practice.

James Neal participated in the morning skate today but still no full practice. He is inching closer though.

Derek Morris suffered a LBI last night and is considered day-to-day

Keith Ballard missed part of the third period last night after blocking a shot. No further details have been released at this point.

Travis Zajac practiced with the Devils today but we won't know if he will be given clearance to play against the Flyers until tomorrow.

Jonathan Ericsson skated with the Wings today so he looks to be on schedule to return once he can be activated off long term IR in a week.

Michal Handzus was not at practice today so don't expect him to be suiting up tonight for the Hawks.

Anton Volchenkov did practice with the Devils today and is a game time decision tomorrow against the Flyers.

Mark Fraser has been deemed ready to go so as soon as Carlyle finds a spot for him he will be suiting up.
