A fantasized look at NHL action from Tuesday night

Joel Auerbach
It's hard to believe but Christmas is almost here! Which means this will be my last Dosage for the next couple of weeks as the holidays are in full swing. But before I can get out of here, I have twelve games to cover from last night. Just like last week however, I will only be covering one standout from each of the games so feel free to mention any performances not discussed in the comments section below.

Here we go!!

Zdeno Chara (2G, 5SOG, 1 Hit) broke a 3 game slump last night scoring the only two goals, both on the PP in a Bruins victory over the Flames. The 36 year old now has 9G and 6A in 34GP to go with a +2 rating, 25PIM and 76 SOG.

Honorable mention to Tuukka Rask for recording his third shutout of the year improving his GAA to 1.90 and SV% to .934 in 27GP.

Marcus Foligno (1G, 3SOG, 6 Hits) was one of many Sabres to register just a single point in a 4-2 win over the Jets. I mention Foligno however as he broke an 11 game point drought with his goal to go with nearly 17 minutes TOI, including almost 3 minutes of that on the PP. After entering the league with 13 points in 14GP a couple years back, he was only able to muster 18 points in 47GP in the lockout year. He now has 9 points in 31GP this year but hey, these are the Buffalo Sabres. He is now on pace for just 22 points, -28, 84PIM and 86SOG. Oh, and 229 hits.

Aleksander Barkov (2A, +2, 1 Hit) helped his Panthers to a 3-1 victory over the Leafs. Sasha now has points in 3 of his last 4 games so perhaps he is heating up. I picked him to win the rookie race at the beginning of the year but his 5G and 9A in 35GP so far isn't gonna get it done. There is really nothing not to like about this 2nd overall pick of the Panthers though as the future is bright for this kid on a team stacked with young talent. A must own in your keeper league.

Valtteri Filppula (2G, +1, 4SOG, 1BS) also scored in the SO as the Lightning downed the Islanders 3-2. He now has points in B2B games and is up to 12G and 11A in 34GP. He is centering a line with Teddy Purcell and Alex Killorn as well as seeing PP1 duties, until Stamkos returns of course.

Max Pacioretty (2G, 1A, +1, 2PIM, 6SOG, 1BS) powered the Canadiens to a 3-1 victory over the Coyotes. Carey Price stopped 26-27 to earn first star honors and improving his GAA to a league 4th best at 1.96 and .936SV% which is good enough for 3rd overall.

Detroit's troubles at home continue as they lost to the Ducks 5-2 last night. Gustavsson was replaced by Petr Mrazek and I expect Mrazek and his christmas themed pads (see 2 Minutes for Tweeting) to get the start next game.

Andrew Cogliano (3A, +2, 1SOG, 1 Hit) and Sami Vatanen (1G, 1A, +1, 4SOG) were my standouts in this game. Vatanen has the offensive upside but is also now competing with rookie Hampus Lindholm on the blue line who has also been playing well as of late.

Alex Ovechkin (1G, 4SOG, 1 Hit, 1BS) now has 399G in 633GP. He will have a chance to score his milestone goal on Friday against the Hurricanes but he took the loss last night against the Flyers.

Jakub Voracek (2G, 4SOG) now has 5G in his last 5GP and 7 points over that span. When he is on, he is on so ride this hot streak while you can. His last streak came between Nov 9th - Nov 23rd where he registered 8 points in 7 games before going seven games without a point.

Marty Havlat (1G, 1A, +2, 2PIM, 2SOG, 1BS) halted a six game pointless skid last night as his Sharks defeated the Blues 4-2. Honorable mention to Patrick Marleau (2A, +1, 2SOG, 3 Hits and 2BS) who now has points in 5 of his last 6 games, including 3 multi point games.

Halak took the loss here so this is just a hunch but I would expect Brian Elliott to get the next start.

Duncan Keith (1G, 1A, +1, 6SOG, 3BS) took down the Predators 3-1. He has a 5 game point streak going with 7 points.

Honorable mention to Antti Raanta stopping 27-28 improving his record to 7-1-1. His numbers are now 2.26GAA and .920SV%. So glad I grabbed him in the summer when I heard of the signing. You just never know.

Josh Harding stopped 29-31 for the 3-2 SO win over the Canucks. I watched this game and Harding made some spectacular saves in this one. His name is already being mentioned in Vezina talks with his performance to date and good on him. I'm pulling for the guy and hope he can keep it up. His updated stats are 1.51GAA (1st on league) and .939SV% (2nd in league) in 27GP.

I don't tweet too often but I did warn Luongo owners earlier yesterday that his record at Xcel Energy Center was 3-9-2 prior to last night's game. He played a good game but this is a case where the stats proved victorious.

Ray Whitney (2G, +1, 3SOG, 1 Hit) proving age is just a number helped his Stars down the Avs 3-2. He also finished 2nd behind Gonchar with nearly 5 minutes of PP time but only finished with a total of 12 minutes TOI.

Dan Ellis with the rare start stopped 25-27 shots and has now rattled off 3 straight victories.

Speaking of streaks, Martin Jones with his 3rd shutout in only 6 games as the Kings finished off the Oilers 3-0. Jones is now 6-0 with a 0.82GAA and .972SV%. Don't be so Quick to come back Jonathan. I'm not done with Jones saving my season in my keeper league just yet.

Honorable mention to Dustin Brown (1G, +1, 2PIM, 4SOG, 6 Hits) for recording his 400th career point last night.

As mentioned at the beginning, there will be no Dosage from me next week as it will be Christmas day and there are no games on Christmas Eve. I will probably not be around for New Years Eve/New Years either for obvious reasons. I will most likely be posting an extended version of 2 Minutes for Tweeting though so watch for that at the end of the month.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! Enjoy the holidays and play safe. But most importantly, arrange for a safe ride home!!

See you in 2014!
