Fantasy Hockey News for Thursday

A fantasized look at the NHL action from Wednesday night

Anaheim with a dramatic comeback victory over the Hawks last night in the Game of the Century. Ryan Getzlaf set up both the tying & winning goals in the 3rd period. Going back about a month, Getzlaf has 7+16=23 over his last 15 games, only Crosby has more (26 points) over that span.

Jonas Hiller stopped 22 of 24 for the win and improves his record to 8-0-1 over his last 10 games with 1.86 & .933 ratios.

Logan Couture was pretty fired up on the ice (2G on six shots) and maybe moreso during a between period interview on TSN where he told Ryan Rishaug that "All I ever hear all summer is about how good the young guys in Edmonton are". Hey, whatever gets LoCo jacked is fine by me... he now has six goals and 35 shots over his last seven games.

Ryan Whitney with a PPA last night and he has 1+4=5 & three PPP over his last four games. Even old man Shawn Horcoff has been feeling it lately as he has 3+1=4 in the five games since returning from a busted knuckle.

SHGs in back-to-back games for Gabriel Landeskog and goals in back-to-back-to-back-to-back games.

Niklas Backstrom turned aside 36 of 38 shots for the win over Detroit and is holding a hot glove going 6-1-0, 2.12 & .929 over his last seven games.

The line of my hero of the week, Matt Cullen, along with Devin Setoguchi & Pierre-Marc Bouchard is pretty much unstoppable these days. Cullen has 1+6=7 during a six game point streak, Bouchard has points in four straight (1+6=7) and Setoguchi finished off two more to give him 6+2=8 in his last five games.

No goals in 11 straight for Damien Brunner but his ice-time is still solid, 16:03 with 4:17 on the PP last night, and he had five shots in the game so he'll likely snap out of it soon.

I can't be so sure about Brendan Smith though as the Wings dman can't get anything going this year. He's stuck on a single point after 19 games and his PP time has dried up lately as Kindl & White are preferred options.

Hot & bothered was Nazem Kadri last night as he had 3A & plus-3 to go along with four of both hits & blocks. His new liney, Joffrey Lupul had another two points in his second game back in addition to a plus-3 & four PIMs. But it wasn't all sunshine & rainbows for Lupul as he may be getting a Shanaban for a high hit on Hedman.

Assist, plus-1, seven PIMs, seven hits & two blocks for Mark Fraser as he had another busy night. Points are pretty rare for him but he's up to a plus-17 on the season with some nice totals in the grit categories.

Tyler Johnson had an assist last night and now has 1+3=4 & plus-5 during a three game point streak. Another of the Bolts AHL crew, Radko Gudas, had his first NHL goal last night... lovin this kid, partially cause he reminds me of Non, General Zod's mute sidekick from the Superman movies.

The Avs scratched both Jamie McGinn & David Jones last night as the two have combined for a minus-20 and just seven goals this year. One of them will likely be sitting again as they were partially replaced by Mark Olver who stepped in after sitting the last seven games and had 1+1=2.

Mike Komisarek & Zach Boychuk are on waivers, if anyone cares... I doubt any NHL teams do.

Gustav Nyquist had his first goal of the season last night after being recalled earlier in the day. Chris Kreider was the other call-up of note from yesterday, he had six goals in his last eight AHL games, so kid should have some confidence.
