A fantasized look at Saturday's NHL action

It was 33 save shutout for Niklas Backstrom as he put his win streak at five. He's flying under the radar as one of the better goalies in the NHL right now with a record of 16-7-2 and neat peripherals of .921 sv% and 2.23 gaa.

Ryan Suter is just an assist machine and he gave you two more yesterday including one on the PP. He started the season rather pedestrian with just 4 assists in his first 10 games. Since then he has 2+20=22 over his next 20.

Tyler Johnson stayed hot since his callup with two goals to keep a four game point scoring streak alive. He's 3+3=6 for the streak.

Lets go with Marc Methot for fantasy line of the night. He gave you everything you could have asked for with 2 assists, 5 PIM, 2 shots, 2 blocks, 6 hits, and plus-2. Don't expect the points to continue, however. He's had just 1 point in his previous 27 contests.

Daniel Alfredsson scored twice on 5 shots and had an impressive (especially for a forward) 6 blocks. He's got 3+4=7 over his last 6 games.

It was a barn burner in Los Angeles as the Canucks triumphed 1-0. The teams COMBINED for a total of 33 shots. Cory Schneider made 20 saves for the shutout. He's on a 3 game win streak allowing just 3 goals total for the streak.

Thomas Vanek scored two goals last night. One on the powerplay and the other was the game winner. Now, if only he could stay healthy for 5 straight games.

James Reimer was spiffy in net for the Maple Leafs stopping 31 of 33 for the win. He'd been bumpy coming into the game, allowing 4 goals in four of his last five starts.

Two assists for Travis Zajac and that's points in three straight games (1+4=5). He's definitely meandering on a lot of your free agent lists and I would definitely give him a look. He's playing top line minutes and skating on a line with Patrik Elias and David Clarkson.

A trio of assists for Jamie Benn last night. He also had 2 PIM, 3 shots, 2 blocks, 4 hits, and plus-2. He's doing everything but scoring goals lately. It's 11 straight games without one for him.

A goal and an assist for Jaromir Jagr and he's on a 3 game point scoring streak with 3+3=6. Can you believe this guy is still doing it at 41 years old?

Mike Fisher had an assist to extend his point streak to six games with 5+2=7. Teammate Roman Josi scored a goal to extend his point streak to five with 2+6=8.

Gabriel Bourque might have gone 24 straight games without an assist but he showed that he's not completely inept when it comes to passing by notching two assists. He now has 6+2=8 over his last 11 games.

Admittedly, I don't know much about this Taylor Beck kid on the Predators but he scored a goal on 4 shots, added an assist and was named the 1st star of the game. His AHL numbers seem mediocre so I'm not sure he should be on anyone's radar just yet.

Jaroslav Halak got back in good graces last night by posting the shutout and making 19 saves. He's got 3 shutouts on the season and has made under 20 saves in each of them. That's the secret, Blues fans, just don't allow more than 20 shots and you have a chance to win with Halak in the net.

Scoring machine Chris Stewart netted the game winning goal last night and this guy does not want March to end. He's got 8+7=15 in the 11 March games.
