Fantasy Hockey Injury News for Sunday

A fantasized look at some NHL injury news on a Sunday morning.

USA TODAY Sports

The big injury news is in New Jersey with Ilya Kovalchuk as he suffered an apparent shoulder injury. Pete DeBoer said "he will be out at least a short time." I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it sounds like he's going to miss at least two games.

John-Michael Liles was slid into by Daniel Paille and looked to be in a great deal of pain. The x-rays were negative but with the way he was limping, I'd say it's safe to assume he's going to miss some time.

Gabriel Landeskog was scratched from the game last night with an abdomen injury. The severity is not known at this point.

I love when teams use the flu to describe why a player is out but then put him on the IR. This is the case with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. I'd say there's something more going on here and some cause for concern.

Erik Gudbranson couldn't play yesterday due to an illness and he likely won't play today either.

Rangers rookie J.T. Miller is questionable to play tonight as he suffered a wrist injury during Thursday night's game. He's going to test it out during the morning skate and see how he feels.

Alexander Edler was suspended two games for plowing Mike Smith on Thursday night. Smith is still undergoing tests but the fact that the Coyotes called up Chad Johnson means they're at least a little concerned that he won't be able to play tomorrow night.

Returning from injury: Thomas Vanek, Marc Methot, T.J. Oshie, Chris Higgins
