A fantasized look at the NHL action from Saturday

Kris Letang with a quad of A in a HNIC barnburner as the Pens beat the Habs 7-6 in OT. He now leads all dmen with 19 points in as many games. With Lidstrom retired, Karlsson injured and Chara & Weber starting slowly this year, I think you're looking at your Norris Trophy frontrunner right here.

Chris Kunitz with 2+1=3 in said barnburner and he is white hot with 10+13=23 & plus-13 over his last 15 games and has moved into a tie for 3rd in league scoring.

Could mention a lot of guys from the Pens but let's shine a little light on Matt Cooke for his two goals, four shots, two hits & three blocks last night. His PIMs are down from when he was the league's most hated player but he's chipping in more regularly on offence with 5+6=11 over his last 14 games.

The Habs had a few guys with ok nights as well, especially Max Pacioretty with 1+1=2 on seven shots. Ever since he got the party started with his first goal in game #11 this year, he's been trending with 7+3=10 & 31 shots in the seven games since.

Braden Holtby with your shutout of the day as he froze out the Jets and their 35 shots. Getting pulled in Philly on Wednesday was the meat in his shutout sandwich and he's been pretty tasty lately with six wins, three shutouts, 2.11 & .934 over his last nine outings.

San Jose has been up & down this year and that's been masking Antti Niemi heroics as he picked up another win while only allowing one goal last night. He now sits top five in both gaa (1.83) & sv% (.934) and I'm loving the consistency as he's held his opponents to two goals or less in 12 of 17 while only allowing more than three goals twice... that's hot.

Andrew Cogliano with your unlikely hat-trick of the night as this guy isn't much of a scorer but has been getting busy lately with eight goals over his last 10 games. He seems to have found new life playing for Coach Bruce and lining up with Saku Koivu.

Speaking of being reincarnated as a Duck... Ben Lovejoy recorded an assist last night and now has five assists in his last eight games with Anaheim. He's been playing about 18 mpg with his new team and is contributing a solid number of shots, hits & blocks. I almost picked him up the other day but then he was a healthy scratch on Wednesday night and that spooked me a little.

Jiri Tlusty buried another one last night, that's 10 in his last 11 games after going scoreless over his first nine to start the season.

Andrei Loktionov was playing with Kovalchuk last night, only cause Kovy was double shifting, but they teamed up on a nice goal finished off by Loktionov. That means the kid extends his point streak to five games with 3+2=5.

The twins are quietly on a nice stretch as Henrik Sedin has 3+11=14 over his last 10 and Daniel Sedin has 5+8=13 in the same 10 games. Even more impressive is that they're doing most of the damage at evens as each has just two points on the PP in their last 10 games.

Tampa went with Mathieu Garon for his third straight start and he lost his third straight by blowing a 2-0 lead against the Bruins. We're not picking on Garon here, this is more of an indication of how little faith they have in Anders Lindback right now.
