Fantasy Hockey Injury News for Sunday

A fantasized look at some NHL injury news on a Sunday morning.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Sidney Crosby took a puck right to the chops on his first shift yesterday afternoon. He left the game and went straight to the hospital for dental surgery. At this point, there's no concrete information out there. I've read that people close to him are optimistic about the injury but the fact is, if he broke his jaw, he's going to miss some time.

The Paul Martin injury turned out to be a broken wrist and he's going to be out 6 weeks. Martin has been real good this season so the Penguins will be looking to replace him via trade. The way they're going, they'll probably land P.K. Subban for a bag of pucks.

Tuomo Ruutu had two assists last night but he was forced out of the game with a LBI shortly after that. It's not believed that this injury is related to the hip injury that kept him out almost the entire season.

Milan Hejduk hurt his shoulder and left last night's game without returning. No more updates were made available so consider him day-to-day for now.

Mike Fisher missed yesterday's game with a UBI, which apparently occurred when he got hit in the hand with a puck. He picked the wrong time to get hurt as he'd been hot, riding an 8 game point scoring streak.

Youngster Tim Erixon suffered a UBI on Friday night which led to him playing only 5 minutes. It sounds like he won't play tonight while they evaluate the injury.

Update from yesterday, Johan Franzen was cleared to play so both he and Mikael Samuelsson will be in the lineup this afternoon.

Josh Bailey was checked dangerously into the boards by Chris Kunitz yesterday afternoon and had to leave the game with a head injury. He looked woozy as he skated off so this smells like a concussion to me.

The update on Marc Staal is that he still hasn't been cleared to skate and his chances at returning this season are starting to fade away.

T.J. Oshie suffered a LBI while blocking a shot on Thursday and he's listed as day-to-day. He's questionable for tomorrow night's game.

Not an injury but Nate Thompson was suspended two games for the elbow he handed out to Matt D'Agostini on Friday night.

Again, both of the ailing Blackhawks scorers, Patrick Sharp (shoulder) and Marian Hossa (UBI), will not be in the lineup today.

Returning from injury yesterday: Johnny Boychuk, George Parros, Brandon Prust
