Monday's Daily Dosage

A fantasized look at Sundays games

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Flyers 4 - Penguins 3
The Flyers chased Marc-Andre Fleury in the first period after scoring 3 goals on the first 15 shots. Wayne Simmonds led the Flyers with 2 goals and an assist. After dropping both games in this home and home, the Penguins are hoping they don't have to face the Flyers in the playoffs.

Canucks 4 - Panthers 3
The Canucks beat Luongo in a shootout in their first match up since the trade. Alexandre Burrows continued his hot streak with a goal and 2 assists. Jimmy Hayes led Florida with a pair of goals. Jonathan Huberdeau left the game early with a UBI and did not return.

Capitals 4 - Leafs 2
The Capitals broke out to an early lead against the Leafs, who are without Jonathan Bernier due to injury. The Caps scored 3 goals in the first 9 minutes. Troy Brouwer led with two goals and Joel Ward had a goal and an assist. Dion Phaneuf had a goal and an assist in the losing the effort. Evgeny Kuznetsov was promoted to the second line and had an assist. He also saw 2 and half minutes on the power play with over 15 minutes of ice time for the game. The rookie is looking more comfortable and is a smart pick for help in the fantasy postseason.

Oilers 2 - Hurricanes 1
The Oilers ended their road trip with a 2-1 win, thanks to a goal and assist from Justin Schultz. Ben Scrivens made 29 saves in the win. Jordan Staal scored the lone goal for Carolina.

Sharks 1 - Rangers 0
Antii Niemi had 41 saves in the shutout win over the Rangers. Logan Couture scored shorthanded to give the Sharks their only goal. For a couple minutes it looked like Carl Hagelin had tied the game, but the video review was found to be "inconclusive". The 18,000 Rangers fans in attendance would disagree.

Avalanche 3 - Senators 1
Semyon Varlamov was 6 seconds away from a shutout when Clarke MacArthur scored the only goal for the Senators. Colorado scoring started with Andre Benoit getting one against his former team. Matt Duchene led the Avalanche with two assists.

Canadiens 2 - Sabres 0
The Habs scored 2 goals on Jhonas Enroth before he was forced to leave early due to injury. Rookie callup Nathan Lieuwen finished the game. Dustin Tokarski (?????) got the shutout for Montreal in only his 10th NHL start. Dale Weise and Brendan Gallagher had the only goals in the game.

Blackhawks 4 - Red Wings 1
The Blackhawks shutdown the Red Wings with a big game from Marian Hossa (1 goal/2 assists) and Duncan Keith (2 assist). Gustav Nyquist scored the lone goale for Detroit. Corey Crawford got the easy win, making only 19 saves. Jimmy Howard looked good (26 saves), but was no match for the Hawks.

Jets 7 - Stars 2
Byfugme! My run for first place was cut short by a Sunday upset due to a Winnipeg homer and contributions from each and every Jet on his roster. Dustin Byfuglien led with 2 goals and an assist. Blake Wheeler had a 4 point night, all helpers. Even Olli Jokinen put up 3 points (1 goal/2 assist). After an ugly start, Al Montoya settled in to make 25 saves for the win. Tim Thomas was yanked in the second after giving up the 4th goal, but Christopher Nilstorp faired no better, making only 14 saves on 17 shots.

Looking Ahead
My fantasy league begins the playoffs this week where I'll have a rematch against Mr Jet. Here are some moves I made to give my team a boost for the first round.

Evgeny Kuznetsov - I held off after it looked like the Capitals were going to ease him into the lineup. That all changed when he scored 3 points and was promoted to the second line. The kid stil has a lot to prove, but in a deep league he can provide a much needed scoring boost.

Eric Gelinas - I held onto him during his Olympic demotion, but after being benched the last 2 games I cut him loose. Keep him on your watch list incase he gets put back in and starts racking up PP points again.

Alex Burrows - A dissappointing seasons landed him on the waiver wire in most league, but playing with Henrik Sedin has him on a hot streak. Six points in his last four games to go along with 11 shots and 12 hits. He can be slotted in LW or RW making him a versatile pickup.

Gustav Nyquist - He's playing on Detroit's first line and has four game this week. Ditto for David Legwand.

Tyler Bozak - Ended up on waivers after a prolonged absence, but has 40 points in 45 games and also has 4 games this week.

Erik Johnson - He's the #2 rated defenseman over the last two weeks, but only 42% owned.

Darcy Kuemper - Has a 1.66 GAA and .939 SV% over last month, but only 49% owned.

What sleeper pickups are you counting on in the playoffs?
