Monday's Daily Dosage

A fantasized look at Sundays games

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Blue Jackets 0 - Islanders 2
Islanders fans were once more wondering what might have been as a healthy Evgeni Nabakov shut out Columbus. Cal Clutterbuck has finally been acting like the sleeper pick I thought he'd be, leading off the scoring for the Isles. Clutterbuck now has 3 goals in his last 5 games to go along with 20 shots and 15 hits. Travis Hamonic scored the other goal as the Isles put a serious dent in the Blue Jackets playoff hopes.

Blues 1 - Penguins 0
Brian Elliott and Marc-Andre Fleury engaged in a playoff like defensive duel before David Backes scored the only goal of the game halfway through the 3rd period. Elliott finished with a 33 saves effort that likely turned the tide of many fantasy matchups for owners who took the risk of a backup goalie facing the Penguins.

Maple Leafs 2 - Devils 3
The Leafs continued their tumble down the standings.  They've lost their last 5 straight and have the Capitals and Blue Jackets within striking distance for the last wildcard spot. The Devils relied on another rookie defenseman as John Merrill scored a goal and an assist. Former fantasy star, Eric Gelinas, returned from his benching to skate only 8 minutes in the game. The struggling James Reimer was pulled in the 2nd period after giving up all 3 Devils goals on only 10 shots. Cory Schneider got the win for the Devils, stopped 21 of 23. Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel got the goals for Toronto.

Predators 2 - Blackhawks 0
Pekka Rinne led the Predators with 29 saves shutout of the Blackhawks. Mike Fisher and Gabriel Bourque had the only goals of the game. Chicago was without Patrick Kane (LBI), who is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season. Look for Teuvo Teravainen to make his first NHL start for the Blackhawks on Tuesday as they try to fill Kane's spot with some scoring.

Wild 4 - Red Wings 3
Just when you think Jimmy Howard has gotten his act together....he blows a 2-1 third period lead to the Wild and loses in OT. Gustav Nyquist continued his breakout season with 2 goals to give Detroit the early lead. Matt Moulson led the Wild with a goal (the OT game winner) and an assist. Ilya Bryzgalov got the winner making 11 saves on 13 (yes THIRTEEN) shots. Those hoping that David Legwand would see a resurgence in Detroit need to look elsewhere.

Sabres 2 - Canucks 4
How bad is Buffalo? So bad that Zach Kassian can rack up 4 assists. After falling behind 2-0 on goals by Tyler Ennis and Jamie McBain, the Canucks woke up and cruised to an easy win. Shawn Matthias had a goal and 2 assists and Brad Richardson had a goal and an assist. Eddie Lack had the win for Vancouver while Nathan Lieuwen dropped his second game in his 3 NHL start. I bet Liewen never thought he'd miss Rochester. The most notable part of this game was the injury to Henrik Sedin, who left the game in the second period with a leg injury.

Panthers 2 - Ducks 6
Not to be left out, the Panthers continued their fight to improve their chances of getting the #1 pick in this year draft. Florida dropped their third game in a row to remain the leagues 3rd worst team with a 6-2 trouncing from the Ducks. Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry led the Ducks with a goal and two assists each. Teemu Selanne continued to see his ice time increase and add a goal and an assist. Jonas Hiller had 28 saves in the win.

Looking Ahead
Teuvo Teravainen is expected to make his first NHL start on Tuesday. Look for Chicago to ease him into the lineup and to keep him under 10 games this season.
